Spry Funeral Home and family began serving
north Alabama in 1919, when Samuel L. Spry, Sr. began helping families with
their funeral needs. Spry Funeral Home
of Huntsville was opened in a home in Five Points, on Pratt Avenue, in 1936. Samuel L. Spry, Jr., a World War II veteran,
returned home and later came to Huntsville to manage the Huntsville location. Later in June of 1960, Spry Funeral Home was opened
at our current location, at 2411 Memorial Parkway NW. Samuel L. Spry, Jr. and his family lived in the
funeral home for many years in order to respond to family needs day or
night. In 1981, Samuel L. Spry, Sr.
passed away.
In 1986, Spry Funeral Home
of Huntsville built and operated the first crematory in Huntsville. In 1989, Spry Funeral Home had grown and saw the
need to expand. Spry was remodeled and
had additional facilities added to service the community. In 1996, a second crematory was added to the
facilities to aid in a growing need for cremation.
Spry Funeral Home continues to modernize and update to give families a comfortable and modern setting to celebrate the lives of loved ones. Spry Funeral Home is the oldest family owned service, in Madison County, with four generations serving the Huntsville and North Alabama communities.
